Information

Medical library of the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences was established in 1982 with an objective to provide library services to meet the informational, educational and research related needs of the students and faculty members both undergraduate and postgraduate and serving the newly established college of Pharmacy and in future college of Dentistry.  Library services are also provided to the university employees, physicians working in hospitals. It is an open shelf library, giving patrons free access to its resources.

 

 

Current holdings comprise more than 9000 monographs. The books are cataloged according to Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDC) and are retrievable by author, title and subject of the books. Additional resources include a comprehensive range of Word Health Organization.

Library has a good collection of Video recording and slides on medical and allied topics. Hardware includes U-matic and VHS Video player , 4 slides projectors and 4 TV sets. There are 2 microfilm machines and a good collection of Microfilms of journals (16mm)

Circulation

Books, monographic series are issued to students for two weeks and staff members for  one month, according to our regulations. The period of borrowing may be renewed after the borrowed books are returned to the library.

Journals and AV materials are not issued. They can be used in the library. Photocopy facility is available in the library.

Electronic Catalog

Electronic library catalog is in process and will soon be on-line. However, card catalog is available and arranged alphabetically by author, title and subject of the books.

Literature Search Services

MedLine is available in the Medical Library at no cost. Biomedical  and scientific databases can be accessed through internet without cost and currently the Deanship of Library Affairs  have subscribed to many online databases that can be accessed through the library page of the website of the University (www.kku.edu.sa) An ID and password is required.

Document Delivery

Materials not available in the library can be obtained through interlibrary loan. The library is a member of GCC medical and health care libraries.

Computer Services

A microcomputer study area is equipped with 10 Pentium111 Pc, laser printer. Internet access is available at no cost to students and faculty staff with KKU-issued password.
