The college was founded as the fourth Medical College in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based on the Royal Decree (No.3/M/3806, issued on the 19th of Safar 1400H) (08.01.1980G). The University Higher Council was approved on 05.06.1402H (30.04.1982G) establishing eleven departments as follows: Anatomy, Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Microbiology & Parasitology, Pathology, Clinical Pharmacology, Physiology, Family and Community Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics Gynaecology, Surgery and Child Health. In 1415 it became affiliated to King Saud University (Riyadh). The college offers a bachelor degree of M.B.B.S. (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery). |

After a number of years, the College became one of the several academic institutions of King Khalid University, which was established following the Royal Decree by His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince on the 9th of Muharram 1419H (04.06.1998G). His Excellency Professor Abdalla Bin Mohammad Al-Rashid was appointed as the first Rector of the University until the present time. The current Dean is Dr Ali M. Al-Binali. The College of Medicine offers an educational program aiming at graduating high quality of male and female doctors capable of serving the region and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a whole. |

The number of physicians graduated from the college amounted to one thousand one hundred and thirteen (1,113) till the last academic year of 1427-1428. Students enrolled in different levels (Clinical and Pre-clinical) in the year 1428-1429 amounted to one thousand and nine (1009), 784 (boys) and 225 (girls).
